Obituary of R. Kevin Thorne
It is with heavy hearts that the family of R. Kevin Thorne announce his passing on May 5, 2024. Born in April of 1951 in Saint John, NB to the late Ralph Willard Thorne and Norma Ella Mae (Rowley)Thorne. After a lengthy battle with cancer, he passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
Kevin will be profoundly missed by his loving wife Barbara Kliffer-Thorne; his children Lindsay Thorne (Dan), Natalie Thorne (Adam), and James Thorne (Kaile); his grandchildren Charlee, Kacie, Hunter, Andee, Bear and Porter; his siblings: Valerie Auvinen (Peter) of Duncan, BC, Douglas Thorne (Cathy) of Westfield Beach, NB, and Shari Brodie (Joel) of Ottawa; Barbara’s children Charles, Jody, Chelsea and Matthew (Kate), his children’s mother Charlotte Troy as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Kevin took pride in his work, dedicating 37 years to NB Power in the chemistry department. He spent many hours of volunteer experience with Meals on Wheels, Boy Scouts, Westfield United Church and Fundy Swat. He served 3 years on the Westfield Village Council as well as 9 years as Westfield Mayor. He was also a proud recipient of the honoured Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Being a loving and devoted family man, Kevin spent much time enjoying activities the whole family loved, such as sailing and boating on the Saint John river, campfires and BBQ’s at their beach, skiing, snowmobiling, camping, cruising and travelling. Being the creative and talented handyman that he was, he built the three different homes that his family grew up in and seemed to always have a project on the go.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to their dear friend Ross Sherwood, the Extra Mural Home Care team…..especially Nurse Julie, for their loving care. They made it possible for Kevin to spend his final days with his family at his home.
