Obituary of David Kenneth Legassick
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David K. Legassick at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB, on Monday, June 17, 2024, surrounded by the love of family. Born May 7, 1951, in Saint John, he was a son of the late Rev. Kenneth and Pauline (Seely) Legassick.
David spent his early years in Hampton, moving to Saint John in his teens. He graduated from Simonds High School and the University of New Brunswick. He was a counsellor with Veterans Affairs Canada.
David was a Y member for over four decades, including many years of service with the Y’s Men’s Club. His passion was running. He participated in marathons near and far, including Boston and New York. He always said he wasn’t fast, but he finished! He received the first True Runner Lifetime Achievement Award from Marathon by the Sea for giving back to the sport he loved so well.
David is survived by his brother, Stephen Legassick (Mary Jane) of Ottawa; sister, Anne MacEacheron (Ian) of Fredericton; aunt, Marge Seely (the late Bert); nieces and nephews: Matthew (Alex), Andrew (Miranda), Julia (Brent), Allison (Emmanuel), Carly (Nick) and Kathleen (Erik); as well as cherished great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Janet Lynn.
The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Bobby’s Hospice for the care they gave David, as well as all of the family and friends who visited him while he was there. He treasured each and every one of you.
