Obituary of Irene Greta Chase
Comforted by family gathered at her side, Irene Greta Chase (n. Sulis) peacefully completed her journey in this life. A lifelong resident of Saint John, Mom grew up on Princess Street enjoying the enrichment of the South End and Queen Square as her playground. In her youth she achieved the highest standard as a Girl Guide Leader and became a talented pianist having achieved the highest levels in the Royal Conservatory of Music feathered by many awards from the New Brunswick Competitive Festival of Music. Her greatest musical achievement was her joy in rousing her children in dance from her lively renditions of the Boogie Woogie and many other pieces of music.
Mom graduated from St. Vincent’s High School and the New Brunswick Teacher’s College from which began her fulfilling career in local schools. Beginning her own family, she opened a day care and kindergarten until such a time her own clutch of children could fill a classroom. Her family was the center of her life, always our advocate, champion and tutor, ensuring our enrichment in arts, literature, culture, music, dance and sports. Alongside Dad, Mom operated Chase Senior Care Homes for 24 years until their retirement.
Mom is survived by her children: Stephen, Jacqueline (John) Gallagher, Michael (Louise), Peter, (Brenda), Katherine (Brent) Mallett, and Andrew (Jeff); grandchildren: Mackenzie Chase, Kaylie Chase, Brayden Chase, Jonathan (Courtney) Gallagher, Patrick (Megan) Gallagher, Lauren (Jeremy) Chase, Matthew (Megan) Chase, Charlotte (Mike) Chase, Christine Chase, Anthony (Alyssa) Pascon, and Robert Mallett; great grandchildren: Sophie Chase, Cooper Chase, Thomas Pascon, James Pascon, Taryn Macleod, Ava Macleod; her siblings Carolyn (John) Keating, Paul (Nancy) Sulis, Dianne (Allen) Watson; as well as several cousins, nephews and nieces. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Walter James Chase and infant son Daniel.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Parkland Shannex who provided loving care and friendship over the years of Mom’s residence.
