Obituary of Greg J. Yeomans BBA, CPA, CGA, MBA
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory John Yeomans on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 10:26 am at Moncton Hospital in Moncton, New Brunswick at the young age of 71. He fought a courageous battle to the very end.
Greg was born in Saint John, NB to the late Willliam (Bill) and Bernice (Hubley) Yeomans on September 21, 1953. He spent his youth in Rothesay, New Brunswick where he attended Rothesay High and was involved in several school activities, including: intramurals, chess, football and managing the hockey team as well as making many lifelong friends. He continued his love of sports playing golf, hockey, curling (Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club) and sharing his love of sports with his grandchildren. He had a great love of music, listening to a wide array of genres. In addition to his love of sports, education and music he also enjoyed an ice cold can of Coke and a bag of Lay’s plain potato chips.
Greg was known for his kindness and compassionate nature. He lived his life for JESUS and personified it in his way of mentoring many. If we could pick one word to describe Greg it would be 'perseverance'.
Receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick (1976), Greg then went on to earn his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation (1990) and then completed a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of New Brunswick in Saint John (2004).
His extensive experience and education in the Financial and Accounting sector led him to a long career with the City of Saint John starting in 1990 as Manager of Accounting Services. In 1998 he went on to become Comptroller and in 2006 was appointed as Commissioner of Finance/Treasurer for the City making many friendships along the way which were very dear to him. In 2015 Greg left the City of Saint John for the position of Chief Financial Officer for Strathcona County, Alberta and was appointed to APEX Pension Board as a Subject Matter Expert, where he finished out his career.
Greg leaves behind his beloved wife, Jacqueline Dawn Yeomans; his two daughters, Michelle (Adam) Kyle of Alberta and Marjory (Jason) Seidel of New Brunswick; five adoring grandchildren, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Christian Kyle and Izabelle and Maddison Seidel; two sisters, Jane (Manuel Cerrato) Yeomans and Faye (Lesley) Hicks; one brother, Fred (Lori) Yeomans, as well as several nieces and nephews. Greg was predeceased by his mother, Bernice; father, Bill and brother, Doug.
Special thanks go out to the amazing Paramedics of Moncton, NB, The Emergency Trauma Unit and MSICU of the Moncton Hospital.
