Shirley Bourgeois

Obituary of Shirley Mary Bourgeois

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Bourgeois, who passed away peacefully at Tucker Hall in the Shannex, Saint John on December 16th, two days past her 84th birthday.  She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Anita (Annette), siblings, Severin, Ignatius, Frances, Thaddeus and Eugene, her nephew, Stephen, her husband, Kris Krogh Jensen, and later, her partner, Manford Thompson.

Born in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Shirley was a remarkable woman.  Her teaching journey took her across Newfoundland, Germany, Quebec, St. Martins and Rothesay as she shared her passion for learning with countless students throughout her career.

“Mme Bourgeois” was the kind of lady who could plan her own birthday celebration, complete with baking her own cake, demonstrating her zest for life and independent spirit.  Her time at her sewing machine was always productive, as she crafted heartfelt projects often given as gifts.  A fan of vibrant colours and stylish hats, she brought a sense of liveliness and warmth to every room she entered.

A true lover of life’s pleasures, Shirley had a deep appreciation for good food—especially when shared with a man who knew his way around a kitchen.  She adored travel, shopping excursions, and cherished time spent on outings with her beloved gal pals.

A great conversationalist, she enjoyed sharing her views on life and discussing worldly topics with those lucky enough to spend time with her.  Her kindness, quick wit, and passion will be remembered by all who knew her.

Shirley leaves behind her brothers, Bernard (Joan) and Walter (Jocelyn), along with her sisters-in-law, Hanne and Mary, brother-in-law Dennis, nieces and nephews: David, Maria, Kara, Katrina, Annette, Claire, Catherine, Bettina, Erin, Monique, Marie, Sheilagh, Dennis and John Hugh, as well as her great nieces and nephews.  A life well-lived and a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

Shirley’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Shannex in Millidgeville; their kindness, care and laughs shared with our Shirley over the years is greatly appreciated.

As per Shirley’s request, there will be no service.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of donor’s choice are appreciated.

Rest peacefully, dear Shirley.  Your journey was inspiring, your memory will live on, and we will always think of you when we see a ladybug.
