Obituary of David Wayne McGuire

McGuire, David Wayne

It is with great sadness and heartache that I announce the death of my biological father on January 5, 2025. David was born on December 26, 1945, to parents Muriel Katherine (Parks) and Richard Thomas McGuire III. He is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Shelley Dickens, grandsons Joshua Dickens (Lindsay), Jordan Dickens (Victoria), Alex Dickens, and Nathan Dickens (Mercedes), great-granddaughters Charlie, River, Abby, and Maddie, special nieces Claire Porter, Tanya Pitt, Cathy (the late Eddie) Walton, special nephew Steven (Susan) Porter. Survived also by brother Richard “Dickie” (Lynn) and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Ronnie and Sammy, sisters Barbara (Porter) (Pitt) and Elizabeth Wade (the late Richard), and nephews Michael Porter (Cheryl) and Paul Pitt.

David was a longshoreman by trade and was a member of Local 273.

David grew up on Chesley Street in the North End. It was well known as the straight shore. He and his buddies spent many hours fishing off the piers. He and his good friend Bobby Comeau were known as Lewis and Clark because they travelled the roads together across Canada. David had many good and best friends throughout his life, including Leonard Daigle and Gary Arsenault. He lost a great golfing buddy, Harry Whipple, with whom he travelled to Florida to golf.

David had a true passion for golf. He achieved a hole-in-one while a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club. He was also a past member of Rockwood Park and the Gowan Braie Golf and Country Club in Bathurst, N.B. He was also a member of the City and District Darts Association. Besides his love of golf, his other true love was Blue Grass festivals and dancing. David was a great jive dancer, and few could keep up with him. He loved to travel for golf and the festivals, including Cuba, Florida, Bahamas, Freeport, Nassau, Myrtle Beach, and Germany.

David would frequently be seen at Tim Horton’s. He made many good friends while sitting with the Liars Club each morning. He said, “We won’t mention their names,” but they know who they are.

David’s biggest accomplishment and proudest moment was being a good friend of Bill W’s. They just celebrated their 42nd anniversary on Friday, January 4.

David had such a flair for fashion; you never had a fear of losing him in a crowd. He had many matching golf outfits, and recently, he had outfits with everything from shirt, pants, socks, and shoes matching. He had over 50 pairs of cowboy boots and over 70 pairs of sneakers.

David wanted his honourary pallbearers to be his four grandsons, along with his friends, Gary Arsenault, Kenny Innis, Richard Deshenes, Leonard Daigle, Gerry Pow, Joe Cheverie, Paul Roy, Harvey Arbeau, and Sky, who works at Tim’s.

David was a very kind-hearted soul and wanted donations made to Romero House. His lasting words he wanted remembered are, “Now that I’m gone, don’t weep for me, but weep for the kids who go hungry every morning.”

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 10, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM.

Donations in memory of David would be greatly appreciated to the Romero House, or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
